Client Spotlight: Charlotte’s Journey in Speech Therapy
When five-year-old Charlotte began speech therapy at the start of the 2024 school year, she had never received any previous support. Her parents noticed that despite her enthusiasm to share stories and join in conversations, her speech was often difficult to understand. Repeated attempts to clarify what she was saying would leave Charlotte frustrated and sometimes in tears—along with mom, dad, and big brother Kevin feeling helpless.
Our playful, evidence-based therapy approach is designed to support your child—and your whole family—on a journey toward clearer speech and stronger connections.
That’s when Charlotte began working with Katie, and everything started to change.
According to her family, one of the most remarkable aspects of Charlotte’s progress came from how fun and interactive her therapy sessions were. “Charlotte would come home from seeing Katie and tell us how to properly say her words!” her mom, Hannah, shared. “She was excited—not only to see her aunt, but also to see the fun games they got to play.”
While the approach may have felt like playtime to Charlotte, her parents quickly noticed how effective the strategies were. They began using similar techniques at home, incorporating picture cues and game-like activities to reinforce what she was learning in sessions.
Katie made it a priority to keep communication clear and consistent, providing regular updates and personalized notes about Charlotte’s progress. “We always received a note and report update describing what they worked on,” Hannah said. “We also got calls about what they were focusing on and how she was improving.”
One of the most powerful outcomes of Charlotte’s speech therapy has been the boost in her confidence. Where once there were tears and frustration, now there’s clarity and joy. “We saw improvements quickly and saw her confidence build! She was excited to tell us how to properly say her words and able to communicate much clearer—with no frustration.”
Charlotte’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact early intervention and a personalized, playful approach to learning can have—not just on a child’s communication skills, but on their entire family. “It was very difficult at times for us,” Hannah recalled. “But now, her overall quality of life has improved—and ours has too.”
When asked whether they’d recommend Katie to other families, Charlotte’s parents didn’t hesitate: “I may be biased,” Hannah said with a smile, “but with her approach to making it fun and not really feeling like a ‘learning session,’ Charlotte was always excited. And we owe it all to Kay Kay.”.
